MELVIN R. CHAPMAN, 70, of Emily died on Aug. 6, 2019 at his home.  He was born in Mount Vernon, IL to Harold and Jessie (Minor) Chapman.

He married Cheryl Stiner on April 4, 1967 in Emily.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; one son, Melvin B. (Shannon) Chapman of Virginia; one daughter, Michelle (Frank) Martin of Emily; one brother, Bruce (Diana) Chapman of Moweaqua, IL; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are his parents; one great-granddaughter and one sister.

DUANE OTTO WELCH, age 85, died peacefully July 6, 2019.  He led a joyous and loving life with his family and friends; as an educator and baseball coach in Hopkins School District and in his dedicated pursuit of fish and a golf ball.  
He is survived by his wife Janice (Adams); step-daughter and son-in-law Danielle and Alan Skajewski; grandson Lee; and his many cherished friends.
Services will be held privately.  He wishes any memorials be sent to your local Salvation Army or animal shelter.

JAMES DOUGLAS FOSSUM, 88, passed peacefully on July 11 in his home on Serpent Lake, a place he called Heaven on Earth.  A kind, resourceful man with a quiet strength, Jim found pleasure in the people and activities of his daily life.  He had a way of encouraging those around him and lifting them up.  He was a blessing to many.

PATRICIA ANN TASCHE, 76, of Ross Lake Township, died at Golden Horizons in Crosslake on June 30, 2019.  She was born on Feb. 21, 1943 in Minneapolis to Leslie and Blanche (Kraich) LaBresh. Pat married Roy Tasche on Feb. 25, 1961 in Maple Plain.  She loved hunting, fishing and gardening.

Larry Scofield obit

LARRY DEAN SCOFIELD, 76, of Aitkin, passed away on July 7, 2019, at his residence. He was born July 17, 1942, in Cass County. Larry graduated from Winnebago High School. He married Sandra Shea on Nov. 4, 1959, and they raised five children together. They lived in Winnebago until 1978 when they moved to the Aitkin area.
Before leaving the Winnebago area, Larry farmed grain, raised livestock and had a drainage business. After moving to Aitkin, Larry still farmed and did land development. He also managed grain/ rice farms and a tree nursery.

Fred Olson Obit

Fred William Olson was born June 15, 1937 and died Nov. 11, 2018 to Axel and Emma Olson of Deerwood and grew up in Deerwood. He attended Crosby-Ironton High School and then went into the military and then on to develop a wonderful family and his life’s journey.
He is survived by many family members.
The family will be holding a celebration of life luncheon at the American Legion in Deerwood on Sunday, July 14 from 12:30 to 4 p.m. If you knew them or the other “Olson Kids’, you are welcome to attend. This will be a pot-luck event.

Richard “Rick” Edward Fox, 46, of Grand Rapids, passed away Friday, July 5, 2019 in his home surrounded by family.  He was born Aug. 5, 1972 in Grand Rapids to Ronald “Ron” Fox and Virginia “Gina” Pittack. He graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1991.

ROY SIPPER, 78, of Two Harbors, died June 20, 2019 in Duluth.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Steven and Lillian (Yunker) Sipper; wife Rita (Smilich) Sipper, four brothers, Kenneth, Walter, John and Bob Sipper and one sister, Mable Huntsperger.
He is survived by special friend Jenny Reinertsen; three brothers, Stephen, Ray and Jim Sipper; five sisters Sandra, Patt, Lois, Jean and Kay and two sons, Ryan and Rory Sipper.
Funeral services have been held.

 

BEVERLY SALMINEN OBIT

A Celebration of Life will be held for Beverly JoAnn Salminen, who passed away Feb. 11, 2019, on Saturday, July 13, 2019 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Salminen cabin on Twin Lakes Road, Menahga.
She was born in Crosby to Frank and Eleanor (Komula) Salminen.  She graduated from Crosby-Ironton High School and Concordia College in Moorhead, followed by extensive education at the U of M.
Preceding her in death are her parents and brothers Frank Jr. and John.  
She is survived by her sister, Bonnie Salminen Goff, and many nieces and nephews who love her dearly.
