Alice "Teddy" Theodora Skattum Obit

ALICE "TEDDY" THEODORA SKATTUM, 97, passed away at Heartwood Care Center in Crosby on Dec. 24, 2025. She was born Aug. 13, 1928 to Lucile (Noble) and Theodore Snodgrass at Miller, SD. She lived in various places in South Dakota, Iowa and Missouri while her father got his doctorate in Mathematics. Then the family moved to Yankton, SD where he taught at Yankton College. When World War II started, her father enlisted in the Air Force as a navigator. Her mother went back into teaching at Hills, MN where Teddy graduated as Valedictorian of her class. She attended South Dakota State College at Brookings and then married Wendel Skattum from Hills at Sioux Falls, SD July 25, 1948. They farmed at Beaver Creek, MN and at Sioux Falls, SD. They purchased a farm in the Battle Lake area in 1955 and in 1962 moved to Crosby where they had a real estate office. Teddy began working for FDIC as a bank examiner in 1980 and later as a postal employee at Aitkin, MN. After retiring, she opened an antique shop in Aitkin, which she operated for 14 years. She loved music and was a Sweet Adeline for over 20 years and member of the Geritol Frolics dance line for 15 years. She also tapped and clogged for a number of years. She was a member of the Deerwood Lakes Lions Club. She volunteered at Salem West and Mustard Seed, missions of Salem Lutheran Church in Deerwood. She was also on the CRMC's Board of Directors for over 30 years. Wendel and Teddy were married over 50 years. He received a kidney transplant that was successful and gave him 9 years more of life. He died in 2007. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Noble Tarrant, son Timothy, son-in-law Paul Mull, and grandson Ryan Mull. Survived by son Todd Skattum, daughter Wendy Mull, grandsons, Jack Mull, Joshua (Shonta) Skattum, Brett (Nicole) Skattum, great-grandchildren, Zach Skattum, Noelle Skattum, Mackenzie Skattum, Benjamin Skattum, Noah Skattum, and Brooklyn Skattum. Numerous nieces and nephews. She was a dog lover and always had a pet. Tucker, a rescue dog, survives her. Preceded in death are Maggie, Clara, Duke, Pepper, Katie, Dixie, Kricket, Kirby and Abby. She did raise Boston Bulldogs and Scotties for fun and sale. Teddy was a world traveler and had been to all seven continents. She was a life long Minnesota Twins fan and collected all kinds of bells for over 60 years. There will be a Celebration of Life Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026 at Salem Lutheran Church in Deerwood, MN. Visitation from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. followed by Celebration of life at 1:30 p.m. To those attending you are welcome to wear your favorite travel shirt or Minnesota Twins shirt and bell accessories.
