Nixon announces candidcy for County Commissioner

ommissioner
Tom Nixon of Deerwood Township has announced his bid for the Crow Wing County District 5 Commissioner seat.
Says Nixon, “Although Crow Wing County District 5 is part of a county with many assets to residents and tourists, District 5 demands it's unique needs equitably represented and addressed on the board. The services the county provides for the taxpayer that supports those county departments, needs to continue to perform optimally and be held accountable. Do you as a taxpayer desire to know how well the county is performing in managing finances, responding to emergencies, protecting our physical and mental health, supporting education and maintaining our assets? You deserve that transparency accurately.”
Nixon has served this area in several capacities including the Deerwood City Council (2006-14), Crosby-Ironton School Board (2015-19) and an appointment by Governor Pawlenty on the Rural Health Advisory Board (2006-10). Nixon has been on the Deerwood Fire Department for nearly 19 years, and is currently the Assistant Fire Chief. He holds a master's degree in project management and is a project manager for MnDOT, and he also directs a traffic safety program throughout part of the state.
"It's time to go to work, and take on the challenges facing District 5. I am aptly prepared to go to work for you and make decisions that right-size our programs and use our resources to the fullest capacity. Be it at an emergency scene or at the board table, I am a listening ear to my peers and yet decisive based on the information we have. On the board I would work to leverage efficiencies to aid in offsetting the costs needed to correct the county deficiencies, communicate to the public more transparently, and arrive to meetings ready to make decisions based on my constituents needs."
