Melvin Rudolph Stern Obit

MELVIN RUDOLPH STERN, 87, died July 30 at his home in Emily.
He was born in Springfield on June 7, 1933 to Emil and Evelyn (Seidel) Stern.  He enlisted in the Army in 1953 and served until 1955.  On Feb. 9, 1957, he married Mary Ann Heiling in Morgan.  They made their home in NE Minneapolis. He retired after 33 years at the Dana Corporation. They moved to Outing in 1979 and then to Emily in 2001. He was a loving and dedicated father to their four children.  He enjoyed spending his days outdoors hunting, birdwatching, and playing golf. He also enjoyed woodworking in his shop.  He was a member of American Legion Post #500 in Crosslake and The Emily, Outing, Fifty Lakes Lakers Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Marvin Stern; five brothers-in-law, Joe M Smith, Alex Louis, Alan Anderson, Al Smude, Vince Schunk; and one sister-in-law Pauline Smude.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann;  children, Judith Benik, Jon (Karen) Stern, Jim (Kim) Stern, Joe Stern;  five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, Jamie and Justin Warndahl; five great-grandchildren; three sisters Joann Louis, Donna (Bill) Knadel, Jan Anderson; sister-in-law Mary Ellen Schunk; two brothers-in-law Norman (Sharon) Heiling, Dan (Joyce) Heiling; and many nieces and nephews.
Burial will be at the Pine Ridge Cemetery in Emily. Due to Covid-19, A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
