John Oliver Noreen Obit

JOHN OLIVER NORDEEN, passed away on Jan. 11, 2025 at his home in Crosby surrounded by his family. He was 64 years old. He was born on May 1, 1960 in Minneapolis to Richard Nordeen and Nancy Swanson. He graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1978. After completing college courses, he went on to work at Technical Tool in Minneapolis. On September 7, 1990 he was united in marriage to Rebecca (Hallin) Nordeen in Anoka. In 1993 they moved to Crosby. He worked at Graphic Packaging (Minnesota Automation) where he retired after 29 years. John also drove the Zamboni to clear the ice at the arena for many years. John was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed many rifle and archery seasons with his son and high school friends. Turkey hunting was another favorite of his. Other things John enjoyed doing were fishing, camping, bowling, traveling and outdoor concerts. He had a love for Minnesota sports. His biggest passion was NHRA Drag Racing where he spent many weekends at the track. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the North American Hunting Club. Preceding John in death are his father, Richard Nordeen; father-in-law, Melvin Hallin, and his grandparents. John is survived by his wife of 34 years, Becky; his mother, Nancy (Duane) Swanson; mother-in-law, Janice (Leonard) Hallin; his son, Shawn (Janelle) Hallin; his grandchildren, Tyler, Kiara, Jenna, Landin, Harlow and Halle; his brother, Donald (Dawn); brothers-in-law, Mike (Deb), Doug (Ruth), Jim (Beth), David, Mark (Pam), Tom (Linnea); sisters-in-law, Brenda, Marilyn (Brian) and Sheryl (Wade); many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and many great friends. A Memorial Mass will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25 at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Crosby. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery in Irondale Township at a later date. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
