JAMES BERNARD ROOT, 76, or Park Rapids died Aug. 1, 2024 at  St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth. He was born Sept. 28, 1947 in Brainerd to Pauline (Tulley) and Lloyd Root, Sr. He was a proud alumnus of Crosby-Ironton High School, graduating in 1965. A former member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Crosby, he dedicated much of his professional life to serving as an insurance agent with American Family Insurance, working both in Minnesota and Arizona. Preceeding him in death are his parents, as well as his brothers Gary and Bob, and his sister Mary Lou.

JACK HOWARD ADAMS, 78, of Deerwood, passed away at his home on July 24, 2024. A celebration of Jack’s life is being planned for Aug. 18, 2024. Full obit will follow.   Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.

MARLENE WALTERS, 87, of Brainerd, died in her sleep on July 25, 2024. She was born on Dec. 1, 1936, to Bill and Eleanor Kimbler in Crosby. She married Gerald Walters on June 29, 1957 and celebrated 67 years together. How do you sum up a wonderful life of 87 years?  Maybe she didn’t do it all, but she did a whole lot.    She was a wonderful wife, fantastic mother, terrific grandmother and great friend to many.  For a job, she was a teacher.  But what defined her was her love of  family, friends and faith. She loved Jesus.

ARLENE "LYNN" ANN REEM, 68, of Grenora, ND, died on July 19, 2024, in Billings, MT. Born on June 4, 1956, in Great Falls, MT, she was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Throughout her life, she wore many hats. She worked as a pharmacy technician, a doctor's nurse, and served as the Promotions Director and Sales Manager for the Iditarod Sled Dog Race. She also managed four retail outlets and was a talented seamstress, creating custom wedding and prom dresses, as well as her own line of affordable children's clothing.

KEELY RENEE PALMER, 58, died at home Jan. 3, 2023 in Denver, CO. She was born April 16, 1964 in San Jose, CA to Lee and Edie (Wolford) Palmer. She married Jo Robinson Dec. 19, 2014 in Denver, CO. She was a 1982 graduate of Crosby-Ironton High School  and received her Master’s degree in Nursing from Regis University. She loved anything pertaining to music; singing and playing many instruments. She fell in love when she discovered her calling: nursing. She moved to Colorado in the late 80s and never looked back.

EDITH "EDIE" LaVERNE BEAL, 90, of Baxter, formerly of Crosby, died at Essentia-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd on Nov. 20, 2023.  She was born in Iron Hub on Sept. 19, 1933 to John and Edna (Rider) Wolford.   She was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Iron Hub, founding member and past president of the Crosby Lioness, active with both the Crosby and Aitkin Chambers of Commerce, worked with her mother at Edna’s Ladies Apparel in Crosby and was a long-time employee of the Crosby and Aitkin Ben Franklin stores.

GEORGIA MARIE LAFFIN, 80, died on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center Care Center with her family by her side. She was born Nov. 15, 1943, in Tuscaloosa, AL to Mathew and Mildred Inman. She married Joseph Bokry July 22, 1959. She  and Joseph had four children: Tina, Carla, Tammy and Joseph.  She  worked many jobs and her main love was being a seamstress making several of her children’s clothes. She loved to sew! Her husband Joseph passed away on March 23, 1980 in Youngstown, OH.  After Joseph’s passing Georgia met and married Charles John Laffin on Nov.

BARBARA MARIE CROOKS, 90, of Deerwood, passed away on July 22, 2024 at the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby.   She was born in Brainerd on Dec. 15, 1933 to Alton and Ellen (Gorden) Niles.  Barbara married Rodney Loren Crooks on June 18, 1955 in Crosby.  She was owner and operator of the Country Pump Antiques in Deerwood and was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crosby. Preceding Barbara in death are her parents; her husband, Rodney and one brother, James Niles.

Constance "Connie" Virginia Krmpotich Obit

CONSTANCE "CONNIE" VIRGINIA KRMPOTICH, 92, of Roseville, died on July 23, 2024.   She was born on June 20, 1932, in Crosby, to Ann (Ferrari) and Orlyn Herington, She graduated from Crosby-Ironton High School and the College of St. Scholastica with a degree in nursing.  She worked as a nurse at Ft. Hood and at Ely Bloomeson Hospital where she later became the Director of Nursing.  While doing that, she worked to attain her master’s degree in public health.
