HERERT "HERB" LAYTON PESKE, 83, of Ironton, passed away on Feb. 18, 2025 at his home. A service is being planned for March 21.  A full obit will follow.   Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.

BRUCE NORBY died Feb. 19 of Alzheimer's. He was born to Norma (Tately) and Palmer Norby April 11, 1946. He wed Patricia Curyl June 8, 1966 and completed two years of service in the U.S. Army. He began a sales career in heavy equipment and was president and part owner of American Crane Service of North Dakota in Bismarck. He ended his sales career with Gilbert Mechanical in Minnesota. He was a proud member of AA for 43 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Jerry, Dale and Paul Norby and sister Sharlene Westby.

DONALD VINCENT KEHL,  92, of Crosby, passed away on Feb. 18, 2025 at the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby.  He was born in Aitkin on Sept. 21, 1932 to Grant and Helen (Borg) Kehl.   Don was a retired employee of Potlatch in Brainerd with 34 years of service.  He was a U.S Air Force veteran.  Don was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crosby and the Walter Scott Erickson American Legion Post #557 of Deerwood. Preceding Don in death are his parents; his wife, JoAnn in 2018; son, Scott Kehl; one sister, Eleanor Johnson and two brothers, Robert and Willard Kehl.

Richard "Rick" James Coccie Obit

RICHARD "RICK" JAMES COCCIE, 64, of Deerwood, passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 7, 2025.  He was born on Aug. 1, 1960 in Grand Rapids to Richard and Elfriede (Rendle) Coccie. Rick was united in marriage to Deanna Bordwell on May 1, 2016 in Crosby.  He was a retired Lieutenant Colonel with the U.S. Air Force with 24 years of service.  He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Crosby and the Walter Scott Erickson American Legion Post #557 of Deerwood.   Preceding Rick in death are his parents.

PHYLLIS (CARLSON) AKINS passed away peacefully and quietly in Mesa, AZ, going to the home of our Lord and Savior on Feb. 21, 2025. She is preceded in death by her parents Edwin and Florence (Lord) Carlson, brother Duane Carlson, son Clark Akins and grandson Jared Akins. She is survived by her sister Colonel Joyce Carlson, USAF retired, two sons Jeff and Bruce Akins, granddaughter Christina (Akins) Lemke, and two great-grandchildren. Phyllis came from humble beginnings to lead a full and vivid life.

RUBY CECELIA IVERSON, 92, of Emily, died on Jan. 29, 2025 at the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby.  She was born on Jan. 26, 1933 in St. Paul to Huge and Pearl (Robertson) McSherry.  She was united in marriage with Donald Iverson in St. Paul on June 13, 1953. Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Donald; one daughter, Peggy Iverson; and two brothers, Hugh McSherry, Jr. and Allen McSherry. She is survived by her son, Donald Iverson of Emily; two daughters and son-in-law, Rev.

JOAN M. (DONAGHY) TICHENOR, 93, of Crosby, left this world peacefully on Dec. 16, 2024 at Heartwood Senior Living Community in Crosby. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, whose warmth, kindness and strength touched the lives of all who knew her. Joan was born in 1931 in Duluth. Joan grew up with a spirit of adventure and a deep love for family. She was known for her generosity, her quick wit, and her passion for traveling, gardening, cooking, volunteering and puzzles.

DALE RODELL, a devoted husband, father, teacher, and friend, died Jan. 11, 2025 surrounded by family. He touched the lives of many through both his career and the simple joys he shared with those closest to him. He was born on Feb. 25, 1940 to parents Richard and Dorothy Rodell in Superior, WI. Born with a sharp mind and a dry sense of humor, he spent his career as a biology teacher at Burnsville High School, where he inspired generations of students to appreciate the wonders of science. He retired in 1997, leaving behind a legacy of curiosity and learning.
